ISDN2 utilises digital technology rather than analogue technology.
The ISDN2 standard consists of 2 channels and ISDN2 system can consist of multiples of 2 channels, these are ideally suited for small and medium sized enterprises which have a small switch or PBX, or for the branch offices of larger organisations. It can be used for a wide variety of applications, including videoconferencing and file transfer.
Benefits of ISDN lines:
- A single high-quality ISDN2 line has two 64K channels. In normal operation you use these separately, so you can make two calls at once.
- You can connect up to eight devices to a single ISDN2 circuit including faxes, digital telephones and computers.
- You can add further ISDN2 circuits to your installation, increasing the number of simultaneous connections and/or available data bandwidth (useful for video conferencing).
- You can use ISDN for voice calls and for high-quality data links with other ISDN subscribers. Digital connections are often used for transferring large files, video-conferencing and linking Local Area Networks at different sites.
Should I have an ISDN2 line?
This service is ideal for a dial up service for small and medium sized offices or home workers. It can also be used as back up line. The service is suitable for small sites that require (128kbps) data transmission and want to integrate their voice, fax and data traffic over one access line.
