Timico opens multi million pound Data Centre in Newark
Newark, UK - January 18th, 2012 - Business leaders from across the Midlands met in Newark-on-Trent today to see Patrick Mercer OBE open the doors of the new Timico data centre. Almost 200 VIP guests converged on the managed service provider’s Nottinghamshire headquarters, where they helped celebrate completion of the first phase of Timico’s strategy to build the most advanced data centre in the Midlands.
Built to support Timico’s fast-growing managed network service, the new £5 million facility will have enough capacity to store a high resolution digital image of everyone on the planet. The centre represents the latest generation of cloud computing and storage systems, and is controlled by a state-of-the-art Network Operations Centre (NOC). With space in its hosting environment now available, the facility will enable Timico’s clients to upgrade or expand their IT systems quickly, effectively and securely.
Today’s launch saw Patrick Mercer and Timico Chairman Tim Radford speak about the importance of investment in the area, and the need for regional businesses to keep up with technological advancements in order to remain competitive. As Radford explained:
"Today we are celebrating completion of phase one of a strategy to develop data centres that are up there with the best in the country. We believe that this new facility will prove to be a real asset for the area’s business community, helping to make our region’s companies more competitive and, ultimately, more profitable.
The centre also represents a sizeable and strategic investment by Timico. I think the fact we have made it here in Newark speaks volumes about our commitment to the Midlands business community."
Senior representatives from leading technology providers including O2 and BT also joined a panel discussion on how technology is shaping the future of business. All agreed that the cloud-based services that the data centre has been built to deliver, represent the future for businesses of all shapes, sizes and sectors, with Timico chief technology officer, Trefor Davies concluding:
"We are really excited about the opportunities the new data centre will bring to our customers. We know that an increasing number of businesses in the Midlands are making the transition to hosted IT and communication solutions, so this is a good example of our dedication to meeting our clients’ needs. Our investment in such an advanced facility demonstrates that we are an ideal partner to help businesses make the most of this rapidly-developing technology."
