He was Assistant Vice President of NGN technology strategy at Mitel Corporation before founding online VoIP retailer ETphones. Trefor was for 4 years a member of the Board of Directors of the SIP Forum, the trade association of the VoIP industry, during the critical period of the introduction of the technology. Tref now serves on the Industrial Panel of the University of Wales School of Informatics and is also on the council of the UK Internet Telephony Service Providers Association (ITSPA) and the Internet Services Providers' Association (ISPA).

From 1996 until 2001, Jonathan was CEO of Elit Group, one of the largest manufacturers of men's formal wear in Europe and since then he has become a Director, investor and Chairman of a number of small and medium size businesses. Jonathan was a founding shareholder of Project Telecom.
