Timico’s next generation Fibre Broadband provides Informa with real business benefits
Informa plc is a leading international provider of specialist information and services for the academic, scientific, professional and commercial business sectors. Informa had an existing ADSL2+ broadband connection at a homeworker’s site which provided very slow speeds of only 2Mbps. With pressure being placed on Informa to meet the ever growing requirements of bandwidth within the business, Timico proposed its superfast Fibre Broadband service, also known as Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC), which can provide download speeds of up to 40Mbps and upload speeds of up to 10Mbps.
Informa already benefits from a number of Timico’s services, including fully-managed, home-based connectivity, point-to-point circuits and Ethernet internet access. One of the key factors which led to Informa introducing Fibre Broadband into its business was the need to upgrade and roll out better connectivity to almost 60 of their home-based workers. The bandwidth constraints associated with ADSL2+ previously made flexible working both impractical and inefficient for their employees.
"We are an existing and very happy customer of Timico, so we were delighted that we were able to take advantage of their new Fibre Broadband service," says Paul Hardy, Head of Service and Support at Informa. "Since we’ve installed Fibre Broadband into the business we have experienced download speeds of 32Mbps and upload speeds of 9Mbps – significantly better than on ADSL2+. Our homeworkers have also seen a considerable improvement in terms of internet browsing and exchanging data and files much faster and more efficiently. With the positive results we’ve seen so far, I could see Fibre Broadband being a catalyst for us to introduce IP telephony for our homeworkers in the future. This could provide us significant cost savings as well as enhancing the productivity of our homeworkers through access to collaborative applications such as video conferencing".
Fibre Broadband would also make it much easier for Informa to further expand its network in the future, and integrate other solutions that Timico has designed to help businesses make the most of high speed broadband, including hosted VoIP, SIP Trunks, co-location, VPN and private WAN solutions.
"Timico have always operated professionally and provided me with an outstanding level of service and support. There were a few initial hurdles in setting up our Fibre Broadband service, however, their technical support teams are very knowledgeable, professional and helpful and got these issues resolved, and the service up and running, extremely quickly. Timico lead the pack and I look forward to seeing what new and innovative solutions they launch in the future and the benefits these will provide us," concludes Paul Hardy.
